God speaks to us through His spiritual light from His throne of grace (Heb 4:16) by the Holy Spirit to our spirit (Jn 3:5-8; Jn 4:24: Acts 2:4; Ro 5:5; Ro 8:16).
By His grace, God gave us faith so we can hear God speak to us through His spiritual light. For, He has made us new creatures created in Christ Jesus (2 Cor 5:17; Eph 2:4-10) and filled us with His Spirit through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:4-7).
Through His new covenant justice, God declares us to be in the right (Ro 3:25). By that, God our Father has made us saints/hagios. Saints is a kingdom word identifying believers made holy by the death of Jesus’ physical body (Col 1:22, Heb 10:10) and cleansed from all sin by His blood (1 Jn 1:7).
Paul prayed for the Ephesians and for us that God’s spiritual light revealed in the gospel of the kingdom and activated in us by the Spirit would light up our spiritual perception.
I pray that the God of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him,
- having the eyes of your hearts enlightened,
- that you may know what is the hope of his calling,
- and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the holy ones,
- and what is the exceeding greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to that working of the strength of his might which he worked in Messiah, when he raised him from the dead and made him to sit at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule, authority, power, dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come. He put all things in subjection under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things for the assembly, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. Eph 1:17-23 WMB.
Natural man cannot receive or comprehend the things of God’s Spirit for God’s spiritual light has not dawned on natural mankind. He thinks they are foolishness and can’t know them for they are spiritually discerned. But, by the grace of God, we can. For, we are His children of light (Jn 12:36; Eph 5:8; 1Th 5:5) and God has revealed His spiritual things to us through the Spirit.
9 But as it is written,
- “Things which an eye didn’t see, and an ear didn’t hear,
- which didn’t enter into the heart of man,
- these God has prepared for those who love him.”✡
10 But to us, God revealed them through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For who among men knows the things of a man, except the spirit of the man, which is in him? Even so, no one knows the things of God, except God’s Spirit. 12 But we received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, that we might know the things that were freely given to us by God. 13 We also speak these things, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things. 14 Now the natural man doesn’t receive the things of God’s Spirit, for they are foolishness to him, and he can’t know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual discerns all things, and he himself is judged by no one. 16 “For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct him?” ✡ But we have Messiah’s mind. 1 Cor 2:9-16 WMB
Thus, we can enter into God’s rest and come boldly to the throne of grace to get mercy and find grace.
Seeing therefore it remains that some should enter into it, and they to whom the good news was preached before failed to enter in because of disobedience, 7 he again defines a certain day, today, saying through David so long a time afterward (just as has been said),
- “Today if you will hear his voice,
- don’t harden your hearts.”✡
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day. 9 There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 10 For he who has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from his. 11 Let’s therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience.
12 For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him to whom we must give an account.
14 Having then a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Yeshua, the Son of God, let’s hold tightly to our confession. 15 For we don’t have a high priest who can’t be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who has been in all points tempted like we are, yet without sin. 16 Let’s therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace/charis for help in time of need. Heb 4:6-14 WMB
