The blessings of God our Father bringing us into the kingdom of His Son (Col 1:13-14) begin with being born again. That’s why Jesus said of John the Baptist and us, “Yet even the least important person in the kingdom from heaven is greater than he.”
“What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?Really, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fancy clothes? See, those who wear fancy clothes live in kings’ houses. Really, what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and even more than a prophet! This is the man about whom it is written, ‘See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’c
” I tell all of you with certainty, among those born of women no one has appeared who is greater than John the Baptist. Yet even the least important person in the kingdom from heaven is greater than he. Matthew 11:7-11 ISV
John the Baptist was the last and greatest prophet of God’s old covenant people. He prepared God’s people to believe the promised Messiah had come. Yet, the least in the kingdom from heaven is greater than John.
Why are we greater? Jesus gave us the answer.
“Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born anew (again, from above) he can’t see God’s Kingdom.” John 3:3
The gospel is the gospel of the Kingdom
” Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying,
” The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. Mk 1:14-15 Cf: Mt 4:23; Mt 9:35; Mt 24:14
God has brought us into the kingdom of the Son
God has rescued us from the power of darkness and has brought us into the kingdom of the Son whom he loves, through whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Col 1:13-14 ISV Cf: Col 1; 1 Jn 2:1-6
The kingdom of God is in the Holy Spirit
” …for God’s Kingdom is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. For he who serves Messiah in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men. Romans 14:17-18
Jesus explained how we enter God’s Kingdom
” 1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Judeans. 2 He came to Yeshua by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him.” 3 Yeshua answered him,
” “Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born anew, * he can’t see God’s Kingdom.”
4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” 5 Yeshua answered,
“Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born of water and Spirit, he can’t enter into God’s Kingdom. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Don’t marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born anew.’ 8 The wind† blows where it wants to, and you hear its sound, but don’t know where it comes from and where it is going. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
9 Nicodemus answered him, “How can these things be?” 10 Yeshua answered him,
“Are you the teacher of Israel, and don’t understand these things? 11 Most certainly I tell you, we speak that which we know and testify of that which we have seen, and you don’t receive our witness. 12 If I told you earthly things and you don’t believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended out of heaven, the Son of Man, who is in heaven. 14 As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only born Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him. 18 He who believes in him is not judged. He who doesn’t believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only born Son of God. 19 This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light, for their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does evil hates the light and doesn’t come to the light, lest his works would be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God.” John 3:1-21 WMB
We are a new order of mankind
Unlike the rest of mankind, we have a spirit born of the Spirit. “That which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (Jn 3:6). We are new creatures created in Christ Jesus (Eph 2:10). In those blessings, we are a new order of mankind, one new man.
13 But now in Messiah Yeshua you who once were far off are made near in the blood of Messiah. 14 For he is our peace, who made both one, and broke down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in his flesh the hostility, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man of the two, making peace, 16 and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, having killed the hostility through it. 17 He came and preached peace to you who were far off and to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and of the household of God, 20 being built on the foundation of the emissaries and prophets, Messiah Yeshua himself being the chief cornerstone; 21 in whom the whole building, fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord; 22 in whom you also are built together for a habitation of God in the Spirit. Ephesians 2:13-22
May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah. 1 Thes 5:23
The grace of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah be with your spirit, brothers (and sisters). Amen. Gal 6:18
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Php 4:23 NASB
