Here we will get more of God’s spiritual light through His Word and the Spirit to help us continue to grow up in all things into him who is the head, Messiah (Eph 4:11-16).
Every Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for convincing, for correction of error, and for instruction in right doing; so that the man of God may himself be complete and may be perfectly equipped for every good work. 2 Tim 3:16-17 WNT
God is light. Walk in the light, as He is in the light
5 This is the message which we have heard from him and announce to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie, and don’t tell the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Yeshua the Messiah, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we haven’t sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. 1 Jn 1:5-10
Jesus is the light of the world
Again, therefore, Yeshua spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world.✡ He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.” Jn 8:12
Seeing the light of the glorious gospel and the light of the of the knowledge of the glory of God.
Therefore, since we have this ministry through the mercy shown to us, we do not get discouraged. Instead, we have renounced secret and shameful ways. We do not use trickery or pervert God’s word. By clear statements of the truth we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience before God.
So if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are dying. In their case, the god of this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe to keep them from seeing the light of the glorious gospel of the Messiah, who is the image of God.
For we do not preach ourselves, but rather Jesus the Messiah as Lord, and ourselves as merely your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory in the face of Jesus the Messiah. 2 Cor 4:1-6 ISV
The spiritual light of the Scriptures
- Your word is a lamp to my feet,
- and a light for my path.
- I have sworn, and have confirmed it,
- that I will obey your righteous ordinances.
- I am afflicted very much.
- Revive me, LORD, according to your word.
- Accept, I beg you, the willing offerings of my mouth.
- LORD, teach me your ordinances.
- My soul is continually in my hand,
- yet I won’t forget your Torah.
- The wicked have laid a snare for me,
- yet I haven’t gone astray from your precepts.
- I have taken your testimonies as a heritage forever,
- for they are the joy of my heart.
- I have set my heart to perform your statutes forever,
- even to the end. Psalms 119:105-112
- My son, keep your father’s commandment,
- and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching.
- Bind them continually on your heart.
- Tie them around your neck.
- When you walk, it will lead you.
- When you sleep, it will watch over you.
- When you awake, it will talk with you.
- For the commandment is a lamp,
- and the Torah is light.
- Reproofs of instruction are the way of life Pr 6:20-23a
John the baptist was the last old testament prophet. Jesus said he was the burning and shining lamp. But Jesus’ testimony is greater.
31 “If I testify about myself, my witness is not valid. 32 It is another who testifies about me. I know that the testimony which he testifies about me is true. 33 You have sent to Yochanan, and he has testified to the truth. 34 But the testimony which I receive is not from man. However, I say these things that you may be saved. 35 He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light. 36 But the testimony which I have is greater than that of Yochanan, for the works which the Father gave me to accomplish, the very works that I do, testify about me, that the Father has sent me. 37 The Father himself, who sent me, has testified about me. You have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form. 38 You don’t have his word living in you, because you don’t believe him whom he sent. Jn 5:31-38
You are seen as lights in the world.
12 So then, my beloved, even as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God who works in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure. 14 Do all things without complaining and arguing, 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without defect in the middle of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you are seen as lights in the world, 16 holding up the word of life, that I may have something to boast in the day of Messiah, that I didn’t run in vain nor labor in vain. 17 Yes, and if I am poured out on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice, and rejoice with you all. 18 In the same way, you also rejoice, and rejoice with me. Php 2:12-17
God called us out of darkness into his marvelous light. Observing the good we do by our noble life predisposes people of the world to hearing the gospel of the kingdom and to glorify God.
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 In the past, you were not a people, but now are God’s people, who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
11 Beloved, I beg you as foreigners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; 12 having good behavior among the nations, so in that of which they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they see, glorify God in the day of visitation. 1 Peter 2:9-12
Let’s put on the armor of light
8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,”* “You shall not covet,” ✡ and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”✡ 10 Love doesn’t harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.
11 Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed. 12 The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let’s therefore throw off the deeds of darkness, and let’s put on the armor of light. 13 Let’s walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Yeshua the Messiah, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts. Ro 13:8-14
The true light already shines. He who loves his brother remains in the light.
7 Brothers, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning. 8 Again, I write a new commandment to you, which is true in him and in you; because the darkness is passing away and the true light already shines. 9 He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in the darkness even until now. 10 He who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no occasion for stumbling in him. 11 But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. 1 Jn 2:7-11
You are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. “Even so, let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men. 14 You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden. 15 Neither do you light a lamp, and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house. 16 Even so, let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Mt 5:13-16
In the new heaven and new earth, each of us will be a part of the Lamb’s bride. Look at her light.
9 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls, who were loaded with the seven last plagues came, and he spoke with me, saying, “Come here. I will show you the wife, the Lamb’s bride.” 10 He carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, 11 having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, as if it were a jasper stone, clear as crystal; Rev 21:9-11
John saw the glory of God illuminated the holy city Jerusalem.
23 The city has no need for the sun or moon to shine, for the very glory of God illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 The nations will walk in its light. The kings of the earth bring the glory and honor of the nations into it. 25 Its gates will in no way be shut by day (for there will be no night there), 26 and they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it so that they may enter. 27 There will in no way enter into it anything profane, or one who causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life. Rev 21:23-27
