The TLC—tender love and care—of koinonia is God being through us. In the TLC of koinonia we thrive in rich interpersonal relationships, mutuality and interdependence. We love one another in word and deed, encourage one another, teach and admonish one another, give and receive edification, exhortation and comfort, sharing our lives and resources with one another. Those are just a few of the ways we serve one another in the TLC of koinonia in the body of Christ.
Before God saved us we were by nature children of wrath. Now, by God’s grace we have been saved.
1 You were made alive when you were dead in transgressions and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the children of disobedience. 3 We also all once lived among them in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Messiah—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly places in Messiah Yeshua, 7 that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Messiah Yeshua; 8 for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, that no one would boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Messiah Yeshua for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them. Ephesians 23:1-10
Our being is God’s doing. Our doing is God being through us.
1 I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love,
3 being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, even as you also were called in one hope of your calling, 5 one Lord, one faith, one immersion, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in us all. 7 But to each one of us, the grace was given according to the measure of the gift of Messiah. Ephesians 4:1-7
In those ways of relating in the unity of the Spirit, we share in the TLC of the body of Messiah.
11 He gave some to be emissaries; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds* and teachers; 12 for the perfecting of the holy ones, to the work of serving, to the building up of the body of Messiah, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a full grown man/mature adult, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Messiah, 14 that we may no longer be children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error; 15 but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him who is the head, Messiah, 16 from whom all the body, being fitted and knit together through that which every joint supplies, according to the working in measure of each individual part, (Messiah) makes the body increase to the building up of itself in love. Ephesians 4:11-16
