The weapons the worldly level at us are carnal. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God.
God has turned the wisdom of the world into nonsense
Where is the wise person? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? God has turned the wisdom of the world into nonsense, hasn’t he? 1 Corinthians 1:20 ISV
Carnal wisdom is earthly, sensual, and demonic.
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and don’t lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic. James 3:13-15
The carnal mind is closed against God our Father in heaven by fleshly emotions and lifestyle.
19Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: Galatians 5:19-21a KJV
Hatred, wrath and envying are emotional works of the flesh that motivate carnal actions.
Hate is the strongest emotion that motivates carnal people. Worldly people hate God our Father, His Son Jesus and us. God haters tend to idolatry.
6For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set of the Spirit is life and peace. 7For the mind-set of the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit itself to God’s law, for it is unable to do so. Romans 8:6-7 HCSB
4 “You shall not make for yourselves an idol, nor any image of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 you shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 and showing loving kindness to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments. Exodus 20:5
18 If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. John 15:18-19
Fleshly emotions and lifestyle keep the carnal stirred up. They can’t think straight. Instead, they are mindlessly irrational, easily excited and misled. They run with the world and love to clump together in a crowd where sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, hatred, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these thrive. Those works of the flesh are the weapons the worldly launch against us.
Worldly political leaders in their lust for power take advantage of the carnal propensities and lifestyles of God haters and encourage them to run amok with no moral restraint. The primary goal of carnal political leaders is to destroy Christianity so the crowd can be even more easily deceived and controlled. Carnal media, intellectuals and academia facilitate their goals.
The foundations of our Western culture have slowly, patiently, deviously been polluted by the stealth tactics of the carnal political leaders. Thus, in America, we live in a culture where Christians are publicly disdained.
In Cultural Marxism: The origins of the present day social justice movement, and political correctness, Stephen Thomas Kirschner lays out the carnal goals for the destruction of Christian culture.
- Sexual restraint
- Personal responsibility
- Patriotism and national unity
The Democrats’ tactics have largely succeeded among people of their own party. Only 32% believe in the God of the Bible. Their tactics have largely succeeded in legalizing the works of the flesh and making their practice a legal right not to be interfered with.
But, among Republicans the worldly have largely failed. The vast majority, 72% of white Republicans and 60% of nonwhite Republicans, do believe in God as described in the Bible.
The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God.
Love motivates our thoughts, emotions and actions. God pours His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5).
5May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the endurance of the Messiah. 2 Thessalonians 3:5ISV
- 4Love is always patient;
- love is always kind;
- love is never envious
- or arrogant with pride.
- Nor is she conceited,
- 5and she is never rude;
- she never thinks just of herself
- or ever gets annoyed.
- She never is resentful;
- 6is never glad with sin;
- she’s always glad to side with truth,
- and pleased that truth will win.b
- 7She bears up under everything;
- believes the best in all;
- there is no limit to her hope,
- and never will she fall. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 ISV
Paul spoke wisdom of God among the saints, not a fleshly wisdom.
The wisdom Paul taught was the exact opposite of carnal wisdom. It was not of this world nor of the rulers of this world. It was not earthly, sensual, and demonic. Paul spoke in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God.
We speak wisdom, however, among those who are full grown, yet a wisdom not of this world nor of the rulers of this world who are coming to nothing. 1 Corinthians 2:6
12For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you. 2 Corinthians 1:12
Worldly people hate God our Father, His Son Jesus and us. So we face persecution.
As God’s people, we know we face hatred and persecution as Jesus warns us (John 15:18-20a). Paul and fellow workers endured tribulation (Acts 14:22), rejoiced in their suffering (Ro 5:3), when reviled, they blessed (1 Cor 4:11-13), they were afflicted in every way (2 Cor 4:7-12), and took beatings and abuse in stride (2 Cor 11:24-25). “Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Messiah Yeshua will suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12).
The carnal war after the flesh demonstrating they hate us. But, we do not war after the flesh.
3For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 KJV
Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil.
Our battle is not against flesh and blood, our human enemies. It is against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.
10Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength. 11Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil. 12For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens. 13This is why you must take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand. 14Stand, therefore,
- with truth like a belt around your waist,
- righteousness like armor on your chest,
- 15and your feet sandaled with readiness
- for the gospel of peace.
- 16In every situation take the shield of faith,
- and with it you will be able to extinguish
- all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
- 17Take the helmet of salvation,
- and the sword of the Spirit,
- which is God’s word.
18Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert in this with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints. Ephesians 6:10-18 HCSB
Jesus said, “Cheer up! I have overcome the world.” We follow Messiah Jesus and overcome.
33 I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world. John 16:33
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21 NASB
I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. 1 John 2:13-14 NASB
4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God. He who knows God listens to us. He who is not of God doesn’t listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. 1 John 4:4-6 NASB
1 Whoever believes that Yeshua is the Messiah has been born of God. Whoever loves the Father also loves the child who is born of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments. 3 For this is loving God, that we keep his commandments. His commandments are not grievous. 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith. 5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Yeshua is the Son of God? 1 John 5:1-5 NASB
